How to Practise With an AI Mock Interview and Use the Feedback

Choose one role and one objective

An AI mock interview is most useful when the practice has a clear target. Select a role and experience level you actually want to apply for. Decide whether this session is about technical explanation, project discussion or clearer behavioural answers. Trying to fix everything at once makes the feedback harder to use.

Prepare a realistic starting point

Have your resume and the relevant job description ready. Remove confidential details from examples. Check microphone permissions and your environment if using voice; typed practice is also useful for organising an answer. Keep your first attempt short enough that you have time left to review it.

A project introduction to adapt

My project focused on making a daily sales report reliable. I owned the validation and transformation steps. The main challenge was handling repeated input files without double-counting orders. I added a repeatable loading process and checked output totals against sample inputs. I can explain the tradeoff we made around late records.

This is a fictional example of structure, not a script to memorise or a project to claim. Replace it with your own work. For an academic project, say so. A clear boundary around what you did gives the interviewer useful follow-up opportunities.

Answer the question before expanding

Start with your direct answer, explain your reasoning and give an example. For behavioural questions, describe the situation briefly, then spend more time on your actions and the outcome. If a question is ambiguous, state your assumption or ask for clarification. If you do not know something, explain what you would investigate.

Review feedback against the actual answer

  • Find one answer where you omitted a concrete example.
  • Check whether a technical correction is valid using documentation or a small runnable test.
  • Identify one follow-up you could not answer.
  • Rewrite only the weakest answer in your own words.
  • Repeat a similar question without reading the rewrite.

AI feedback can be wrong or miss context. A practice score is not a prediction of hiring success and should not replace checking the reasoning. Avoid optimising for a number while leaving your understanding unchanged.

Turn practice into a small routine

Keep a note with the question, what was unclear and your next practice task. For example: “Explain why my join duplicates rows; build a two-table example and check the output.” That is more actionable than “Improve SQL.” Use the interview preparation library to study a topic, then return to Mars AI Interview for another attempt. AI sessions require sign-in; follow the available session controls shown in the product.
